Lionel Messi, who has been at the center of rumors about a potential return to Barcelona, has reportedly made his decision.
The Argentine superstar, who left Barcelona in 2021 due to financial constraints and La Liga regulations, has no intention of rejoining his former club while Joan Laporta remains its president.
Journalist Guillem Balague confirmed that a second stint at Barcelona is “impossible” under the current circumstances.
A Record-Breaking Career at Barcelona
Messi enjoyed a legendary career at Barcelona, scoring 672 goals in 778 appearances and winning numerous titles, including four Champions League trophies and ten La Liga championships.
However, his departure marked the end of an era, and he joined Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in 2021 before making a high-profile move to Inter Miami in 2023.
Thriving in Miami
Since joining Inter Miami, Messi has been transformative for the club and Major League Soccer (MLS).
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has scored 36 goals in 42 games, leading the team to victories in the Leagues Cup and the MLS Supporters’ Shield.
His contract with Inter Miami runs until December 2025, with club co-owner Jorge Mas expressing confidence that Messi will stay beyond that date.
Mas stated that he expects Messi to remain with the team as they transition to their new stadium, Miami Freedom Park, in 2026.
Dismissing Nou Camp Rumors
Reports suggesting that Messi expressed a desire to play at the revamped Nou Camp have been dismissed by Balague.
Instead, Messi is focused on his current role at Inter Miami, where he is surrounded by former Barcelona teammates such as Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.
The club is also preparing for the expanded Club World Cup in the United States this summer.
Looking Ahead
Inter Miami is committed to keeping Messi as part of their long-term vision.
The team’s new home, Miami Freedom Park, is set to open in 2026 and will feature a state-of-the-art stadium alongside entertainment facilities.
With Messi’s influence both on and off the pitch, Inter Miami aims to continue its upward trajectory in American soccer while solidifying its global reputation.
