G-Boy born Vitalis Homela has said he is committed to work hard such that he will also have a hand in uplifting the image of his home town Gokwe through his music.
Speaking to My Gokwe Media through its Finding & Celebrating Gokwe Heroes & Legends Initiative, the upcoming Gokwe born artist said due to his passion for his home town, he decided to call himself Gokwe Boy (G-Boy) and he was not moved by any negative stories being said about the town but to do more in the music industry and see the flag of his home town flying high.
Born on the 16th of April 1995, at Gokwe Centre, the South Africa based star hails to come from a well-up family in Gokwe Sai where he grew up. The 24 year old is happy that all his parents are still alive and witnessing his new career path though “they have not yet welcomed the idea that I am now a musician.”
G-Boy acknowledges that, despite being inspired by the likes of Diamond Platnumz, Jah Prayzah and Davido, he was a bit reluctant to venture into the industry until he met a Harare based artist, Rebo T.
The young rising star who used to sing at church, Praise & Worships until grace located him through Rebo T after they met at church in South Africa is happy that he has now become a seasoned musician. “He found me singing at the church and approached me after admiring my voice and begged me to join him and record one Dance Hall Song.
“After welcoming the idea, Rebo T promised to send me a bit so that I would work on the lyrics, which I did, we shared and managed to record ‘Gullies Degree’. I could not believe it as this song was really welcomed and many people then encouraged me to take music seriously.
“Having motivated by the performance of ‘Gullies Degree’, I then decided to work on my own project. I did my lyrics without a bit and then approached the producer who then did a bit for me. This is how I produced a second song in my name, ‘Usatambe nemoyo wangu’.”
G-Boy as he like to call himself, is very optimistic and is hoping to go far with his music because he has already gone far than he even imagined. “I have also another song I composed called Dino, people I shared with this song are being thrilled. So I want to go very far, really far.”
Like any other journey, music journey has its own challenges and these have not spared G-Boy as he confessed to be facing some of them. As an upcoming artist, lack of financial muscle to have a team is one the major setbacks the young star is facing. “I berg from the Gokwe Centre Businessmen to help us grow our music and develop our talent. We have determination but derailed by our challenges.”
Despite the challenges, G-Boy is promising a lot to his fans, whether in Gokwe or beyond. Recently, the ‘Usatambe nemoyo wangu’ hit-maker dropped another hot song, ‘Ndiwe’ and the song is already on youtube (click here to watch) and more is lined up for the fans.
