Bute Gemechu, a 23-year-old newcomer to international racing, clinched the men’s title with an impressive time of 02:04:51.

This victory marks a remarkable debut for Gemechu, who has only participated in a handful of international races prior to this marathon.

His performance was characterized by a strategic attack in the final kilometers, showcasing his potential as a rising star in long-distance running.

A Thrilling Women’s Finish

The women’s race delivered an exhilarating finish as Bedatu Hirpa overtook fellow Ethiopian Dera Dida in the final stretch.

Hirpa crossed the finish line in a world-leading time of 02:18:27, celebrating her biggest career win and achieving a significant personal best.

Dida, who finished just four seconds later in 02:18:31, appeared devastated despite her strong performance.

The dramatic conclusion to the women’s race added to the excitement of the day, as both athletes demonstrated the fierce competition within the Ethiopian ranks.

Ethiopian Dominance

The marathon saw Ethiopians sweeping the top positions, with all top ten spots in both male and female categories filled by their athletes.
